Here is my Fifth Blogg on Common Causes of Driving Test Failure
TEN REASONS TO FAILING A DRIVING TEST NUMBER FIVE
NOT MOVING OFF SAFELY
What You Must Do
You must be able to move off safely while making the correct observations:
· from the side of the road
· on a slope or hill (gradient)
· from behind a parked vehicle, so you have to move off at an angle

Moving off - safely
Common Causes of this Failure
Moving off from behind a parked vehicle into the path of an approaching vehicle
When the candidate moved off from behind a parked vehicle, they checked their mirrors and blind spot, but still moved off into the path of an approaching vehicle. This causes the vehicle to significantly slow down.
Repeatedly moving off from the side of the road with no blind spot checks
Throughout the test, the candidate repeatedly moved off from the side of the road with no blind spot checks in situations where they’re needed.
Pulling off from the right-hand side of the road, causing an oncoming vehicle to slow or stop
After the ‘pull up on the right’ exercise, the candidate moved off with either an oncoming vehicle or a closely approaching vehicle from behind. This causes the vehicle to severely slow down or stop.
Not making any rear observations when moving off following an emergency stop
After braking on the emergency stop exercise, the candidate moved off without making any rear observations, having been stationary in the middle of the lane for some time.
Remedies
Although the candidate checked their mirrors and blind spot they did not accurately assess where the approaching car was and also may not have assessed the vehicle’s speed. Remember to look assess decide and act (LADA) on what you see.
Every time you move away from the side of road, move off from traffic lights or in traffic ques always check the left blind spot, left mirror, interior mirror, right mirror and right blind spot.
When undertaking the pull up on the right manoeuvre always do a chin to shoulder check of the opposite road and pavement.
After breaking on the emergency stop always give a good look left and right over your shoulders.
